A master of the ancient Chinese lute and a star of Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road tours and recordings, Wu Man was granted the first master’s degree in pipa form the prestigious Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. Her dramatic, powerful playing is at home with traditional Chinese music as well as contemporary work by artists like Lou Harrison and Tan Dun. She will be accompanied by a percussionist and perform “Ancient Dances,” a fascinating exploration of Chinese calligraphy in music and video.
