Salvatore Licitra stepped in on very short notice for an ailing Luciano Pavarotti at a 2002 Metropolitan Opera gala performance of Tosca and became an over night sensation in what Newsday called “the most triumphant Met debut in recent memory.” Licitra has emerged as the most promising Italian tenor of his generation, hailed for his rich, dark-hued muscular tone, viscerally powerful top notes, and his sheer star power.
