“The last jazz immortal.”
—The Village Voice
A jazz musician of monumental powers, tenor saxophonist Sonny Rollins is regarded by many to be the world’s greatest living improviser. Since the late 1940s, he has worked with a who’s who of jazz greats including Art Blakey, Thelonious Monk, Bud Powell, Miles Davis, Clifford Brown, Max Roach and John Coltrane. In 1999, a Boston Herald reviewer wrote, “Rollins’ sheer force-of-nature presence set the direction...His mastery of rhythm and melody remains breathtaking.” Now in his 70s, this giant of the bebop era continues to thrill audiences with brilliant solo flights. His most recent recording This Is What I Do is the essence of jazz.
