FROM DAKAR, SENEGAL

Youssou N’Dour

Previously scheduled for
Tuesday, October 16, 2001

“A singer with a voice so extraordinary that the
history of Africa seems locked inside it.”

Rolling Stone

The pioneering force behind mbalax (a celebratory blend of African, Caribbean and pop rhythms) Youssou N’Dour is a world music superstar. Spin magazine credits him with having “more talent in his thumbnail than most so-called pop stars have in their entire being.” His sweet, arching vocals can be heard on collaborations with such influential artists as Paul Simon, Peter Gabriel, Neneh Cherry and Branford Marsalis. N’Dour performs with his band, Le Super Étoile.
