“Something so rare and wonderful that no world
music think tank could conjure it up.”
—Rhythm Magazine

Descended from Khassonké griots, guitarist/singer/composer Habib Koité and his band perform a seamless fusion of Mali’s music traditions with a distinctly modern sound. On chart-topping recordings and in sharply choreographed stage shows, the music boasts radiant, tranquil melodies and catchy polyrhythms. The band’s special mix augments traditional instrumentation—talking drum, djembe, balafon, lute and harp—with electric and acoustic guitar, bass and harmonica.
