4 Generations of Jazz Violin
Johnny Frigo, Joe Kennedy, Jr., Regina Carter, Darol Anger, Matt Glaser
Monday, November 9

Proving that you can swing best on a violin, these five violinists represent the incredible breadth and appeal of jazz music. You’ll hear bebop, swing, straight ahead, jazz-bluegrass and contemporary styles. Grammy-nominated soloist Johnny Frigo began his career with Jimmy Dorsey’s big band. Joe Kennedy, Jr. is the fiery founder of bebop violin. Darol Anger started the groundbreaking Turtle Island String Quartet; and Matt Glaser, known as “L’Enfant Terrible of the Jazz Violin,” heads the string program of Boston’s Berklee College of Music. Up-and-comer Regina Carter, hand picked to join the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, can be heard on her recent release Something for Grace. For this historic tour, they’re all backed up by ace musicians on piano, bass, guitar and drums.

General public: $14/$17/$20
Students: $12/$14/$16
